Shutter Profile
Sunburst- A half moon shape. Spectacular effects with natural light are achieved while maintaining privacy when louvers are opened.

Transom- The cross bar between the top of the shutters and bottom of the sunburst. It provides a finished look to the set and stabilizes the top of the shutter panels.

Tilt Rods- The rod which connects the louvers. It allows quick and convenient adjustments to the louvers. A tension screw holds the louvers at the desired angle.

Divider Rail- The horizontal section that separates a panel into two sections. The louvers can be operated above or below the independently. The rail also adds strength to the panel.
Louvers- Made from Poplar hardwood, the louvers swivel and rock on nylon pegs and a special tension screw. This screw allows the homeowner to change the tension through a simple adjustment. This ensures that the louvers will stay in the desired angle. Louver sizes are manufactured in 2.5, 3.5 and 4.5  inch sizes.

Sunburst Louvers- The sunburst louvers are fully functional, but must be adjusted by hand. This is because the louvers are arched and do not move in a straight line.

Top and Bottom Rails- The wooden piece at the top and bottom of each shutter panel. The rails are normally the same size, but they can differ if desired. A lip called an ogee allows the louvers to overlap the rails and prevent light leakage.

Stiles- The wooden piece on each side of the shutter panel that fits against the side of the window. The cross section is rectangular. The middle portion is "rabbeted" to create an overlap which blocks light.
